Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan - Nintendo 3DS (Video Game) newly tagged "video games"

Especially since these games tend to get scarce later on and resell for higher than their release price.

Also of note: Atlus has been releasing QR codes for additional quests and content. It's pretty cool that they are doing that. And there is a video tutorial on how to use the codes in the game. The QR codes get you a few little trinkets, but nothing crazy good. A few open up some quests later in the game. You can scan them once, and then the quest will be an option later without having to re-scan the QR code.

Also, don't expect much from the pre-release extras. The art book is just a few pages, and isn't more than the first few pages of an instruction manual. There are a few renderings, some character bios, and a little comic page. It's about the same size as the case itself. The CD has several of the non-orchestrated tracks. (That is the tracks as recorded by the composer before they were orchestrated).

Update:

The game gets tougher. Exploration in the skyship is really quite fun. It's a similar setup to the dungeon exploration, yet it isn't. It's nice to be able to secure food to sell in town. Great way to make money. Sometimes it's tricky to navigate the airship with the obstacles and the FOEs. The subsequent 'worlds' get much cooler.

The burst system is a great addition. Especially the Escape Burst that takes you from battle and to the dungeon entrance. Nice if you are getting whipped by a FOE.

My only complaint is that you receive a crap ton of experience with each completed quest (update - it doesn't make a huge difference later on - it's the early quests that toss a ton of xp at you). I know this makes life easier and makes for less grinding, but it really also kind of lets me down when I struggled to beat a bunch of enemies to gain a level, then I return from finishing a quest and get another level basically. It's not quite that bad, but I think it is one of those things that the developer inserted because folks were complaining. And that's on Normal, not Casual mode.

Also, you can apparently start a *New Game after beating the game. There is a locked out harder difficulty setting that I think you can play on a harder setting than Normal.

It's just as fun as the older titles, but with more exploration thanks to the skyship and multiple labyrinths and caves instead of the one big dungeon as in the first two titles. And for the record, those kangaroo things are annoying! But launch carrots and they get all "nom".

Oh, one other beef, I wish they would have had character drawings come up when you talk to people at the Peacock place. Instead of just selecting a person (like Grizzled Explorer or Love Struck Adventurer). Would have been fun to have that one extra little touch of interaction.

Pros:
+ Decent challenge
+ Amazing soundtrack
+ Fast battles
+ Lots of options (including Casual setting)
+ Great classes
+ Great screen setup on main exploration screen and in battle
+ Access to enemy info in battle (once you've beaten at least one of that type)
+ Good map making interaction
+ Overworld exploration and multiple dungeon types for variety

Cons:
- Just one save file (come on guys!)
- Wanted more color palettes for PCs (just two)
- Pretty short and lackluster art book for the pre-purchase

Update:
You do get to have some grinding time after you kill Blood Bear and reach the 3rd level of the Lush Forest (name? The first multi floor dungeon). So from level 12 - 18 or so you will be grinding. I imagine that the grinding will come in spurts. But at least you have the scavenging skills so that you can go into a dungeon, fight baddies, scavenge, and then return to town and sell the goods.

Also, some QR quests don't open up until you can access the dungeons. You really don't know which dungeon will access which QR quest unless the QR has a description on the site or e-mail you got it from. Otherwise when you scan it, it says "You are unable to access this quest at this point in the game" or something to that effect.

------------
Update:
Gets tougher, but mainly the bosses and some of the FOEs. Just leveling up helps. Subclass system interesting but doesn't really change game play too much.

Almost done with the game and I must say I have enjoyed it immensely.

Pokemon Black Version 2 & Pokemon White Version 2 The Official National Pokedex & Guide Volume 2: The Official Pokemon Strategy Guide (Paperback) newly tagged "video games"

My son is a big Pokemon fan so I've become one as well, and we love these guidebooks. Wouldn't play the game without them because they offer so much useful information that you could miss just playing the game straight through on your instincts.

This volume isn't the walkthrough, though. It's the second in a two-volume set and is basically a big Pokedex reference guide. It has all the information about all the Pokemon you could ever need to know. We really like it and use it a lot, especially for looking up what level a certain Pokemon will level-up at and what moves that Pokemon might lose access to or delay getting if he levels up too soon etc. Sometimes you want to delay evolution for strategic reasons to build a stronger Pokemon. This book helps you know when that's the right thing to do, and much more!

Buy Volume 1, though, if you want the game walkthrough.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Nintendo 3DS (Video Game) newly tagged "video games"

It's pretty responsive with just a slight touch, which is nice, since I would be scared of messing up the touch screen otherwise. You also use the D-Pad for your menus, like your item pouch, quest selection, etc. R-Shoulder button lets you dash, but watch your stamina bar (yellow bar) when doing so. "B" is for evading, which is essential in this game. "A" is for selection, foraging, and carving. "X" and "Y" are both for attacks, but "Y" is also used to for items, like using Potions, Eating, etc.

ITEMS/EQUIPMENT: This game is centered around items and equipment and they've added alot to this Ultimate version. Search for items by looking for forage points (mushrooms, herbs, etc.), catching bugs with bug nets, and mining with your pick axes (both bug nets and pick axes can and will break, so you'll want to buy and/or make more). Other items are found on the dead bodies of monsters. You can carve items off them, like skins, fangs, tails, etc. Items are also given as rewards at the end of quests and after exchanging kills for hunter points (cover that later). You'll need these items to make helpful items, like Flash Bombs, Traps, etc. and to also make new equipment and weapons, which are both primarily made by carving items off monsters.

WEAPONS: These are what you'll use to take down the monsters obviously. There are 12 different categories - Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow. Each weapon is different from the others and this gives many people a variety to test out and enjoy. You have 1 of each available from the start. Some are quick (Dual Blades, Sword & Shield), while others are slower (Hammer, Great Sword) and others are ranged (Bow, Bowguns). The quicker weapons generally rely on multiple quick strikes, while the heavier ones rely on slower, powerful hits. Experiment with all of them. It's easy to do this time, since you've got 'em all off the bat.

OTHER:

Hunter points are awarded to you for killing monsters by just going out of Moga Village, not on a quest. This is a good way to unlock new things, gather items, etc. You can spend HR (Hunter Points) on Villager Requests, like upgrading the farm, on fishing ventures, etc.

The farm is nice place to build up essential items without having to go out and gather them yourself, which takes more time. You can have the Felynes there do different tasks, like cultivate crops, grow mushrooms, gather honey, etc. You'll need to upgrade the farm with HR and items, but it's worth it.

You also get partners in this game. One is story related from Tri and that is Cha-Cha, while the other is another shakalaka, named Kayamba. In Tri, you could only have Cha-Cha. I usually use them as a distraction for the monsters so I can set a trap, attack, etc.

Second Island - This island is accessible right at the beginning. It's free to travel to. It has other item dealers and other quests. The quests are harder than the initial Moga Village quests, but it's a good way to get some early powerful equipment. Newer players be warned, many times you're hunting a monster on this island, another large monster is there as well, so keep that in mind.

CLOSING: If you're an experienced MH player and enjoy the series, get it. It's an awesome game that shouldn't be missed. If you're new, know that this game takes practice. If you feel you don't like a weapon, change to another one. Experiment with weapons and practice with them. Use the beginning quests to their utmost by gathering as much as you can carry, so you'll have items to mess around with and stockpile for later. Anyways, happy hunting!

There are achievements scattered throughout the guide as they apply to the different sections but they have also placed them nicely at the end of the guide in one complete section for easy viewing.

The guide has a lot of "articles" written by the Maxis employees/developers that have worked on Simcity, which is exciting to see. The first one you'll see is by Kip Katsarelis the Lead Producer and he explains the features of the Multi-City game-play.

Another great perk is that this guide comes with a serial number to access the "Eguide" online through Prima which is pretty awesome, the updates are free and it's great to know that your purchase won't get outdated in a month with a game patch.

Overall, I think this is one of the better guides I have seen and I'm very happy with my purchase, I'd definitely recommend this.

Theme Park (Video Game) newly tagged "video games"

+ New Attractions - Theres a few new attractions, including rides and shops. And according to the game box there is unlockable content..

+ It's Fun! - I love amusement parks and I love building my own even more, so if you like building your own amusement parks then you should have fun with this game, whether you're familiar with this game or not.

Cons:

- Music - The background music gets kind of repetitive. Though you can choose from five background music choices, I found them all to be kind of grating, luckily you can turn the volume down or even turn the music off altogether. And in order to hear the ride music you have to click on the ride, I wish that you could be able to hear the ride music without having to click on the ride...

- No New Game Play Elements - While Theme Park is addictive and building Theme Parks can keep one occupied for hours on end, I wish that they had included new gameplay elements such as certain scenarios or missions to complete.

- Those unfamiliar with the series may find it too simplistic or may have expectations that this game is going to be like Rollercoaster Tycoon. Remember Theme Park was released back in 1994 so the graphics and gameplay may not be as complex as Roller Coaster Tycoon, however, I find that the simplicity of Theme Park is what makes it such a charming and fun game (and don't be fooled, despite its cartoony graphics, Theme Park can be a pretty difficult game). So don't expect this to be like Roller Coaster Tycoon because they are entirely different games, with Theme Park having a more cartoony and humorous bent.

Overall I highly recommend this game, whether you're familiar with it or not. Gameplay is simple, building various amusement parks around the world is bound to keep one busy for hours on end, and there's a lot of fun and humor, so give Theme Park a visit!

Rune Factory 4 - Nintendo 3DS (Video Game) newly tagged "video games"

I've been a fan of the Rune Factory games for some time now and I have been waiting for RF4 for about a year. I preordered it MONTHS ago and was so happy when I got it.

Pros:

Music is great. Going through the town or a dungeon is great with the background music.

Mechanics were so improved upon!!! It took me a very short time to get used to the new mechanics but they work so much better now.

Characters are lively! They make the town! Some of them ended up being quite different from what I had expected, and thats a good thing! I didn't expect Vishnal to be so clumsy and I didn't expect Illuminata to be so excitable, for example.

There are so many little things that make the game. Up in the windmill when looking out in the binoculars, for example, they input allusions to other games. You really have to explore your way around this game to get it all but trust me, it's a lot of fun!

The story really draws you in from the beginning. From the time you fall off the airship onto Ventuswill to the many discoveries you make early on in game. The more you hear and see and learn, the more interested you'll be to whats going to happen next.

You need Prince/Princess Points to develop the town. Now, I thought getting these points would be really difficult and take a long time before I could do anything but that is not the case at all. Getting the points is very easy and allows for easy development of the town and your farm.

Jealousy dialogue. One of my favorite parts in the game is the jealousy dialogue the townspeople get when you decide to date two people at once. Now, I don't suggest to do that but it's still rather amusing.

Cons:

Can be a little glitchy.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Xbox 360 (Video Game) newly tagged "video games"

High Moon Studios' War for Cybertron was probably the best Transformers game ever made. It's only real competition for the title was the PS2 Transformers based on the Armada series. If you took everything special about War for Cybertron and stripped it down to its basic gameplay mechanics, you'd have Dark of the Moon.

High Moon Studios decided to use an element of play that really bugged me about the control in Revenge of the Fallen. Namely, the need to hold down a trigger button to stay in one of your modes. Since they added a "stealth force" mode, that is now your default transformation from robot mode. To transform to a vehicle, you have to keep the left trigger held down. But wait, there's more. To steer, you use the RIGHT analog stick, WHILE holding down the left trigger. To boost, you hold down the right bumper, and to use your e-brake, you hold down the right trigger button. Don't worry too much, because you'll spend most of your time in stealth mode.

Forget spending a whole lot of time in robot mode, as you'll just die faster. Even on easy, this game is no picnic. To artificially lengthen play time, swarms of the exact same Bayish Decepticlones (to borrow a term from the Transformers Armada game) keep coming at you. Along the way, more Autobots will join your fight, but you'll hardly notice them having any impact. The most use you'll get out of any Autobot is Ratchet, who will heal you when your health meter is low. As per usual in a Transformers game, if you can find a safe hiding spot, your health will regenerate automatically.

Unlike previous games, there are not two separate campaigns. The game assigns you a character; you can't even pick from a roster. You'll start out as Bumblebee driving through generic earth environments.

Bioshock 2 - PC (DVD-ROM) newly tagged "video games"

Follow-up to BioShock, 2K Games' critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2007 release, BioShock 2 is a first-person shooter set in the fictional underwater city of Rapture. As in the original game, BioShock 2 features a blend of fast-paced action, exploration and puzzle-solving as players follow varying paths through the overarching storyline based on the decisions that they are forced to make at various points in the game. In addition to a further fleshing out of the franchise's popular storyline, players can look forward to new characters, game mechanics, weapons, locations and a series first, multiplayer game options.

BioShock 2 game logo
The Story
Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster — somehow familiar, yet still quite different from anything ever seen — has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city. It is a Big Sister, new denizens of Rapture who were once one of the forgotten little girls known as Little Sisters, known to inhabit the city's dank halls. No longer a pawn used to harvest ADAM, the dangerously powerful gene-altering lifeblood of Rapture, from the bodies of others and in turn run the risk of being harvested herself, the Big Sister is now the fastest and most powerful thing in Rapture. You, on the other hand are the very first Big Daddy, in fact the prototype, that for some reason has reactivated. You are similar to the Big Daddies familiar from the original BioShock, but also very different in that you possess free will and no memory of the events of the past ten years. The question is, as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city beneath the waves, hunting for answers and the solution to your own survival, are you really the hunter, or the hunted?

Gameplay and Multiplayer
In BioShock 2 players will take on the role of the original Big Daddy, not that of game one protagonist, Jack. As a Big Daddy you will have access to all the strengths and weapons of a standard Big Daddy, including the drill and rivet gun. More importantly you also possess free will and the ability to use plasmids and gene tonics — genetic modifications allowed for through ADAM, a stem cell harvested from conquered enemies, or sea slugs outside the Rapture air lock, and powered by the in-game injectable serum known as EVE, which can be found, captured or purchased. Plasmids and gene tonics provide a wide range of aggressive and passive abilities which can be upgraded and arranged for quick use. The ability to use plasmids and tonics gives you a decided edge over other Big Daddies and most other denizens of Rapture, excluding the powerful Big Sisters. In addition, due to their role as a Big Daddy, players will experience a new relation to the Little Sisters. Upon defeating standard Big Daddys you are given the familiar choice as to whether to harvest or adopt them. Harvesting gains you ADAM immediately, but could alter your path through the game, while adopting makes you responsible for Little Sisters, who then accompany you through Rapture, but also provide aid and warning in times of danger. Additional gameplay features include: new plasmids, weapons and the ability to combine these two.

The game also features the anticipated multiplayer modes. Several of these are team-based, allowing up to 10 players. Within these players are provided with a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction, and allows you to play as one of several characters pulled from Rapture's history before the events of the first game.

Key Features The Big Sister - No longer just something to be harvested or not, the Big Sister is the most powerful resident in Rapture. You Are the Big Daddy - Take control with the original prototype Big Daddy, and experience the power and raw strength of Rapture’s most feared denizens as you battle powerful new enemies.New Plasmids - New plasmids such as "Aero Dash" allowing for bursts of speed over short distances, and "Geyser Trap" a stream of water used as a jump pad and electrical conductor, join the ample list of Plasmids from the original game.New Game Mechanics - BioShock 2 contains many new gameplay mechanics. Just a few of these are: the ability to wield plasmids and weapons simultaneously; flashback missions detailing how you became the Big Daddy; the ability to walk outside the airlocks of Rapture to discover new play areas, and many more.New Locations - Just a few of the locations and environments debuting in BioShock 2 are Fontaine Futuristics, headquarters of Fontaine's business empire and the Kashmir Restaurant.Evolution of the Genetically Enhanced Shooter - Innovative advances bring new depth and dimension to each encounter, allowing players to create exciting combinations to fit their style of gameplay.Return to Rapture - Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the story continues with an epic, more intense journey through one of the most captivating and terrifying fictional worlds ever created.Genetically Enhanced Multiplayer - Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new weapons, plasmids and tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations.Experience Rapture’s Civil War - Players will step into the shoes of Rapture's citizens and take direct part in the civil war that tore Rapture apart.See Rapture Before the Fall - Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up for multiplayer.

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Expansion Set (CD-ROM) newly tagged "video games"

Hi my name is Frank and I've been playing this game for over 10 years now. I have only recently stopped playing it after breaking from the infinite addicting cycle of fun. This game will ruin your life very easily. In fact, it's already have for several other people including myself.

All those times spent collecting: Armor, Gemstones, Stones of Jordans, Crown of Ages, High-Runes, runewords such as: Enigmas, Grief, Heart of the Oak, etc...

Building up your Hammerdin, Smiterdin, Sorceresses, Summonmancers, Novamancers, this game has left a permanent scar to my life of video-gaming and I will perhaps enjoy it and wallow in despair for having wasted so much time with this game...sounds scary huh? Well it is...

This game is like the virtual crack that most people aren't aware of.

For the online experience, there are many people who will exploit the 3rd-party programs: bots, hacks, cheats, etc... in order to get ahead of the game. The reason why they would do that is to fluctuate the economy of the Multi-player system. Yes, the online game is much different from single-player in the fact that you are entering a market of trade in the game.

You will perhaps get scammed several times by other people if you don't know what you're doing in this game.

You have been warned, good luck and have fun.

Oh and last note, I just bought a copy of Diablo III and it sucks. Don't buy Diablo 3 for at least another year or until the developers have had a chance to fix the major issues of that game, since they just launched it obviously.

The Art of BioShock Infinite (Hardcover) newly tagged "video games"

A lot of games these days have pretty weird characters. BioShock is one of them with its own kind of weirdness, especially the characters.

This is a large 184-page hardcover concept artbook published by Dark Horse.

The concept art features the environment, characters, weapons and other props such as propaganda posters. I like the environment art for the floating city of Columbia. It's beautiful yet mysterious.

There's plenty of character art, that of Elizabeth, Booker, Songbird and many of the grotesque and mechanical enemies, Heavy Hitters. It makes you wonder about the twisted minds of those in Columbia who created these monstrous beings. They have included quite a bit of discarded art that couldn't make it to the game as well.

The art is accompanied by some commentary and annotated handwritten text. No much. If you've not played the game, it's quite impossible to know what the game is about by looking at the art.

It's a nice companion video game artbook, but overall, I felt the art is not as refine as Deco Devolution: The Art of BioShock 2, but this is also sort of a different title.

A Kindle edition for this is also available. You can check out the preview pages on Amazon.

(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

Whoa... that was a long list! Sounds like you're going to need some help. And that's why Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate not only features local (3DS) and online (Wii U) multiplayer, but it also adds one new A.I. shakalaka companion. If you liked Cha-Cha, then you're gonna like Kayamba too! And if you didn't like Cha-Cha, you have one more thing in common with Kayamba, since they are rivals... so in the end, you're gonna like 'em either way. =P

2042 new pieces of equipment broken down as follows:
- 59 Great Swords, 83 Long Swords, 71 Sword & Shields, 122 Dual Blades, 73 Hammers, 99 Hunting Horns, 78 Lances, 108 Gunlances, 76 Switch Axex, 91 Heavy Bowguns, 96 Light Bowguns, 115 Bows; Total number of weapons is now 1398!
- 1028 new Armor pieces; Total number of amor pieces is now 1663!
Now the total number of equipment is 3061! Can you believe it?

And there are also 3 new areas: The Tower, Misty Peaks and the Tainted Sea

CRAZINESS RIGHT?!!!
Out of any title releasing the first part of this year, MH3U is probably the one title that you will truly get all of your money's worth out of. Just to be warned though, it is one of those titles that you either like it or hate it but for the vast majority everyone seems pleased with it. It is slow to get started but hang in there because it becomes very rewarding, not to mention the online multiplayer is great. I will be playing this title till the end of the Wii U's lifespan I'm sure.

Syndicate [Download] (Software Download) newly tagged "video games"

If you like exploring, a series of collectables in the form of hidden propaganda, business cards and intelligence are spread throughout the delightful scenarios. After you have collected those, you can read deeper into the story in a menu called "InfoBank" accessible by hitting the 'tab' key mid-game. The more you collect, the more you will know, and once you have enough, if you like conspiracies and connecting the dots, you will see through the lies and discover the unlikely puppet master behind the entirety of the plot, choreographing everything to play right into his/her agenda. I will tell you this much, nothing in the game is an accident. And even though I cannot say I particularily endorse having to go out of your way to discover what the story REALLY was about, if you do, you will be rewarded with a rich understanding of a world that is significantly deeper than what you see on the surface.

Ultimately, the Single Player campaign's story is what you make out of it: Collect everything and read into the backstory and it is very interesting to see how it all lead to what you actually get to play. Don't, and it SEEMS like an empty, average and meh generic shooter full of plot holes.

Now, let's go into actual gameplay: Fast and frantic. Both you and your enemies have higher health pools and resilience than what is seen in other games like, say, Call of Duty. Also, weapons have very tight accuracy and spread even when firing from the hip: This is very reminiscent of glorious PC shooters such as quake, and even though your movement speed is lower, strafing and jumping will not affect your hip firing accuracy. Shooting missiles or explosive shotgun shells at enemies' feet is particularily endearing, and a delicious throwback to using rocket launchers in Unreal Tournament. The ultimate feel of the game is a very fun and genuinely refreshing and enjoyable mixture of old-school arcade and modern FPS gunplay.

Then there is your DART6 chip: Gives you the ability to highlight enemies in orange against dark backdrops and see them through walls as well as take more bullets, deal higher damage and slow down time (this last thing only happens in Single Player). This skill, the DART6 Overlay, lasts for a short while and recharges through time as well as murdering enemies. Beside this, there are DART6 Applications: Unique skills that can be directly and offensively aimed at enemies and are only recharged through combat: Killing sprees, multi-kills, headshots and optimal usage of Applications all grant bonus points towards recharging your other Apps and the Overlay, as well as giving you a rating at the end of each stage (how very delightfully old school this is, actively rewarding balls-out skill).

Examples of apps are Breach, which can disable enemy armors and shields, Suicide, which causes an enemy to commit suicide with a grenade, taking out any surrounding foes, Backfire, which causes up to three enemies to have their weapons backfire and cause damage to themselves as well as making them more vulnerable, Persuade (based on the original Syndicate's Persuadertron) which has an enemy change sides for a while and ultimately blow his own brains off...

Enter Co-Op, where pretty much everything I have said regarding gameplay gets MUCH BETTER.

Let's start with Applications: There are more, they can be customized, they can be upgraded. There are SEVERAL of these, none of them senseless fluff or filler. Things like putting up a shield for the whole team which, once depleted, results in an EMP blast that incapacitates nearby enemies, Damage Link which enhances the damage output of all team members momentarily, Squad Heal (exactly what it says on the tin) and so on. All of them are recharged in the same way as their SinglePlayer brethren: Through skillful gameplay.

The Breach Application, available always and by default, can also be applied to friendlies in co-op, healing or reviving them and granting bonus points to the healing samaritan. This in turn encourages tight team play, as aiding your teammates directly results in benefits for you. While breaching (healing or reviving) a teammate, you can move around and defend yourself, although strafing and jumping around while holding down 'E', while not impossible or even particularily hard, proves an entertaining task.

By earning Experience (basically the points you get by generally being awesome) you level up your character, getting a series of permanent upgrades

And this one of the aspects which is just monumentally better in co-op: As you level up, your character transforms into a lithe, high-health murder machine, reminiscent of Quake, Unreal, Serious Sam and the like. Upgrades such as 30% higher health, 20% better armor, 50% better accuracy and spread and infinite sprint are all geared towards making your character more and more like ye ole' FPS protagonist that jumps around dodging bullets and launching rockets. Upgrades are permanent and, by level 30 (takes a good while) you'll have them all.

And you will need them. Them, and teamwork. Because Co-Op is nothing like Single Player. It will kick your ass. Available settings: Normal, Hard and Extreme. Easy? Pshaw! Easy is for little girlymen!

Once you get closer and closer to level 30, you'll become increasingly "one-man-army"er, and if you are skilled in shooters, it's likely that you'll be able to beat all co-op missions in normal by yourself. However, Hard and Extreme will DEFINITELY require you to sweat bullets and have equally skilled, max-leveled peers by your side if you do not wish to be sodomized by the game. You will need good aim, a penchant for moving around dodging enemy fire like crazy and, at the same time, a blood-written oath to stick together and apply TACTICS. Yes, you heard me, TACTICS. Such as MMORPG favorites by the likes of slowly luring enemies away from their pack. Healing, reviving and team-orientented DART6 Apps will be the order of the day. Oh, and bullets flying everywhere.

The missions are slightly randomized, more so as you ramp up the difficulty: Different types of enemies will randomly spawn or come in dropships in different parts of the stages completely unpredictably. And even though the "main forces" will always appear in the same place, as difficulty increases so will the number of random enemy spawns. This, and the fact that enemies use wildly different strategies in harder difficulty settings instead of blindly charging you and spraying lead will ensure every play through every stage will be different and just as exhilarating as the last.

Recommended for people who like reading into backstory (such as MGS fans), frantic old-school gunplay and tactics(IE people who enjoyed 1990's PC FPS) and co-operative multiplayer.

No, there is no PvP competitive multiplayer.

World of Warcraft Collector's Edition - PC/Mac (CD-ROM) newly tagged "video games"

First: I have never played a MMORPG before this time. I'm not some kid with a gaming habit. I'm 27, fairly busy, and not about to spend money on a game I won't enjoy.

Up until this time the most incredible game I have ever played was The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It was a perfect role-playing experience for someone raised on classic D&D, and the only drawback I ever found was that it was quite the lonely game. Months ago some friends of mine started talking about World of Warcraft. I was not even familiar with Blizzard or the Warcraft strategy games, so took all the hype with a grain of salt. Out of curiosity, though, I joined the Open Beta. And wow, what a couple of weeks that was.

The Warcraft world is richly diverse and deep in beauty. The scenery is gorgeous and the ambient sounds perfect, with some of the most beautiful music fading in and out as you explore. During the beta I played as human, undead, orc and night elf, and each race comes with its own history and its own future. Appearance is customizable enough that you don't "see yourself" walking around all that much, and the classes are all have strengths and weaknesses. Had great fun running down and slashing enemies with my undead warrior, enjoyed striking them with lightning from a distance with my orc shaman, smote the little beasties with my human priest and bound them with roots with my night elf druid. During that time I also learned how to make bandages and apply first-aid, fish, cook, and use herbs. It is no problem at all to create a character you will enjoy role-playing, and no, there is never another character out there just like yourself.

Of course, all that isn't taking in the social aspects of the game, which truly bring it up above and beyond the Morrowind experience.

I played mostly on the special Role-Playing servers, where there weren't alot of people casually chatting about server lag, Halo 2, etc. On the RP server you stayed in character as you played, whether you were whispering to a partner, speaking to those around you, talking among your party or chatting with guild-mates. I never had a problem with finding a group - in fact, many times I was invited into groups by strangers. The quests can be done solo but really are more fun with at least one other person, and a little easier as well. There are some speaking options for your character, as well as lots of fun emotes. You can sit or lie down, eat and drink, fish (fishing is great fun) swim and dive, dance (also great fun) and on and on, all with other people. It truly is a living world, sometimes helpful and friendly, sometimes busy and crass, but how can one really RP without a realistic world to RP in?

The worst part is, now that the beta is over I miss that world very much. It is a place you can casually go to, enjoy the experiece, and then return to at another time.

As far as the game itself, I ran it sucessfully on an old 1.1 Ghz desktop with an anceint video card without much trouble, though getting a new card and some memory definitly helped, especially with the detail and lighting of the graphics. The servers were impressively stalwart under the pressure of 500,000 beta-testers, and when they did go down, it wasn't for long and no data was lost.

I would definitly shell out $50 for simply an RPG of this caliber. To play with friends and other folks in a living world, with new quests, creatures and features constantly being added and such great support from the Blizzard staff, the monthly fee is hardly a thought. I'm building a new system partially just to play this game, and hope it is successful for a long, long time.
